When young people meet only occasionally, it is possible for each to put on his best face. But there are certain characteristics which a person does not ordinarily display before the public that are extremely important in successful mating. Sufficient time should be taken to discover these.
As difficult as it can be to find someone you click with, maintaining that click can be even tougher. You have to make sure that you and your date are on the same relationship page. You have to deal with issues of intimacy (in a sexual sense as well as an “I wet the bed until I was 17” sense). And you sometimes have to make agonizing choices: Do I care about this person enough to give up my independence, my porn collection, my entire bag of Doritos?
